I work with writers and organizations to ensure their materials are clean, clear, and ready for submission or publication. These may include anything from papers and articles to full-length books.

You can trust that your project is in the hands of a trained and experienced professional. With an MS in crime and justice studies (concentration in victim advocacy), I’m highly familiar with the field’s concepts and vocabulary. I’ve worked with both public and private organizations as well as independent authors.

Why should you hire an editor?

Writing that is wordy, unclear, or difficult to follow can come across as unprofessional and undermine your credibility. Small errors or inconsistencies also distract readers and reduce engagement. A professional editor can help you refine your writing so that it’s clear, polished, and easier to read, all while saving you time and potentially money.

Self-editing may not be enough, as familiarity with your own work can make it hard to spot errors or unclear phrasing. Spell checkers and even advanced AI tools like ChatGPT can miss or misuse words, overlook punctuation and grammar issues, and fail to grasp the nuance needed for accurate corrections. If you're considering professional editing, explore the services below to find the right fit for your needs.

Editing services

Copyediting: Starting at $0.04 per word (one round of editing; additional rounds are charged hourly at a discounted rate)
Sentence-level edit that checks for grammar and punctuation, spelling, clarity, consistency, syntax, language usage, awkward sentence construction, paragraphing, and wordiness.

Line editing: Starting at $0.06 per word (one round of editing; additional rounds are charged hourly at a discounted rate)
Sentence- and paragraph-level edit that goes a bit deeper than copyediting, clarifying meaning, ensuring coherence and flow, and refining the language. This edit does the following:

  • points out awkward or unclear passages; simplifies long, complicated sentences; and edits redundant passages

  • ensures smooth transitions between paragraphs

  • simplifies technical language, eliminates jargon, and proposes or introduces definitions (if applicable)

  • ensures consistency in multi-author works

  • replaces passive constructions with active verbs (when appropriate)

  • removes excess words that don’t advance arguments

  • improves readability and tone

Line editing + clarity edit: Starting at $0.07 per word (one round of editing; additional rounds are charged hourly at a discounted rate)
Includes everything in a line edit, with added attention to the organization and clarity of your key points. It’s ideal if your draft is complete but you’d like to strengthen how your contributions are presented. This edit does the following in addition to a line edit:

  • flags unclear or incomplete reasoning where the intended message isn’t coming through

  • suggests paragraph reordering or section-level adjustments to improve flow

  • identifies where transitions or brief elaborations would help reader comprehension

  • helps refine key sections such as the introduction, motivation, or recommendations

This isn’t a developmental edit. I don’t assess your methods or models. Instead, I focus on helping you present your findings and main points as clearly and logically as possible.

Not sure which level of editing you need? Send me a short sample. I’m happy to take a look and recommend the best fit.
